EILEEN MACDONALD (published on April 19, 2006)

EILEEN MACDONALD Peacefully at Victoria General Hospital on April 13, 2006. Eileen was predeceased by her husband Jack in 1994 and daughter Eileen in 1962. She is survived by son John and wife Kathi MacDonald of Atlanta, Georgia, and son Rob and wife Karen MacDonald of Winnipeg, grandchildren, Colleen MacDonald and Shannon Skinner (Mark) of Atlanta, Georgia, and great-grandchildren, Hunter Chard and Sebastian Skinner. Eileen was born in Winnipeg on July 24, 1916. She was raised in Winnipeg's north-end on Bannerman Avenue and graduated from St. John's High School. Eileen married Jack and together celebrated 55 years of marriage. They resided in Edmonton for several years before returning to Winnipeg in the early 1950's where they raised their family in River Heights. She was an avid bowler and participated in several leagues at Uptown Lanes on Academy Road. She especially loved winter holidays with Jack to Hawaii and trips to visit her grandchildren. Sunday dinners at Elmhurst Golf and Country Club were family tradition that Eileen cherished. Eileen volunteered for many charities including the St. John's Guild and Kinettes. She was very active with the Children's Hospital Book Market. Eileen's love of fashion was evident to everyone who met her. She was always immaculate in her dress and appearance. This passion led to a second career in retail sales where she worked at Academy Fashions and Creative Wardrobe. Her regular customers were always appreciative of her honesty and suggestions on their clothing purchases. The family would like to thank Dr. Jain and the team at Victoria Unit 3 north, especially Ron, for their care and compassion. Thanks also to long-time housekeeper and friend Julia Balik, friend and neighbour Berte O'Neil for the treats and home cooking and homecare worker Marva, whose visits Eileen so enjoyed. In accordance with Eileen's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Eileen may be made to Victoria General Hospital Foundation, 2340 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, MB R3T 2E8.
