FRIEDA BJARNASON (published on April 19, 2006)

FRIEDA BJARNASON On Saturday, April 15, 2006, Fettje Frieda Bjarnason, widow of Einar Bjarnason, died at the age of 88 years. Frieda was predeceased by her brother Jan Rusken in the Netherlands. She leaves to mourn her daughter Ingrid Bjarnason of Winnipeg, as well as nieces in Canada, England and the Netherlands. She was born April 25, 1917 in Breda and grew up in Zwolle, the Netherlands. She came to Winnipeg in 1946 as a war bride, crossing on the Queen Mary. She worked for 23 years in accounting departments of the Federal Government, retiring in 1982 from Transport Canada. Frieda had been a member of the Winnipeg Lawn Tennis Club, Taylor Tennis Club and the Winnipeg Winter Club, where she greatly enjoyed playing tennis for many years. For 50 years her summer months were spent at her cottage in Victoria Beach, playing tennis and feeding the birds, and lately the bears. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or to the Salvation Army.
