SOPHIE MARANTZ (published on April 22, 2006)

SOPHIE MARANTZ (nee KRINDLE) Peacefully, on Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at the Sharon Home, Kanee Centre. Sophie, who passed away a few blocks from her childhood home on Hallet Street, was predeceased by her husband Frank, her oldest son Cyril, daughter-in-law Shirley-Anne, brother Sam and sister Ida. She will be deeply missed by her sons, William (Brenda) and Gary; as well as her daughter-in-law Irene, her ten grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Sophie, who lived her entire life in Winnipeg, attended Norquay School and St. Johns High. She was married for almost sixty years to Frank, who passed away in 1990. A passionate traveller, each winter she and Frank would visit various parts of the world, including several trips to Israel. Her other passions were card playing with her numerous friends, knitting sweaters and afghans for her family and preparing holiday dinners at her home. (Sophie was known for her incomparable nothings .) Sophie was laid to rest, after a graveside service, on Sunday, April 16, at Rosh Pinah Memorial Park. Her six grandchildren acted as pallbearers. The family would like the thank the staff on the 3rd floor of the Sharon Home and Sophie's companions, Sharon and Lita, for their excellent care. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Sharon Home, 146 Magnus Ave. R2W 2B4, or a charity of your choice.
