PHILIP ZELL (published on April 22, 2006)

PHILIP ZELL With great sadness, the family of Philip Zell announces his passing on April 5, 2006 at the age of 81. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ida (Greenberg) and his children, Candi of Toronto, ON, Shawn (Shirah Rosenberg) of Linden, NJ, and Michele (Nelson Kanter) of Skokie, IL, as well as his grandchildren, Hadassah, Ariel (Beth Schuss), Jacob, and Daniel. He was predeceased by his parents, Mendel and Toba, and his siblings Harold, Frances Tolchinsky, and Barry. Philip arrived in Winnipeg as a child in 1930 from Lithuania. He served in the RCAF in the Second World War. Upon his return, he first owned a grocery store and then a clothing store in St. Boniface. When he retired, he dedicated himself to volunteer work for a variety of causes and Jewish organizations, especially hospital visitations and the Jewish National Fund. Philip Zell was was a quiet, unassuming, gentle man, who would give the shirt off his back to help others. He was devoted to his family, Yiddishkeit, and Israel. Despite his poor health during the last two years, he always maintained a positive attitude and continued to fight his diseases without complaint. He serves as a role model for all, and will be forever missed. Donations in Philip's memory may be made to the Jewish National Fund or the Chavurat Tefila Synagogue. MAY HIS MEMORY BE FOR A BLESSING
