DANIEL JOHN PALANUK On the morning of April 13, 2006, a bright light in our lives went out. Daniel John Palanuk, loving Husband of Evelyn, Dad to Pat (Greg Penney) and Bonny and Pops to his one and only Shea, left us after a long struggle with heart disease at the age of 73. Ev was by his side, he knew everything would be OK ... but we will miss him dearly. His memory will also be cherished by his sister Olive and husband Don Couch, sister Lillian Palanuk, brother-in-law Ted Mikliechuk and wife Wyllea and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Agnes and sisters, Hazel, Mary and Claire. Dan was a Mechanical Engineer with the Paper Company in Pine Falls for 28 years. He retired as Woodroom Superintendent in 1990 to enjoy some time with family, and to relax with his two favourite pastimes - fishing and golfing. He was the best husband anyone could ask for, a gentle, supportive and devoted companion. And he was an even better Dad - ever wise, always positive and encouraging - and he was so proud of his girls and their accomplishments. He especially loved his 7 year-old grandson Shea, and had great fun hanging out with him and watching him grow. During his final stay in the Pine Falls Hospital, Dan really enjoyed the regular visits from Bill Borlase, Bob Seguin and Bill Sharpe, who cheered him up with their jokes and humorous reminiscences about life. In our hearts, we'll remember so much about this very special man. We'll remember the many stories he told of acting as an extra in Hollywood movies, and how he beamed when showing us his cameo appearance in the Oscar-nominated movie Capote. We'll remember the comforting scene of Dan on the river in his fishing hole, and how at peace he seemed on that clear, clean water. We'll remember booting around in the golf cart, the hummingbirds in the feeder, and the tasty (sometimes odd!) meals he would whip up. We'll remember the never-ending contraptions and doo-dads and fix-its, and the amazing innovative nature that built them. Most of all, we'll remember the corny jokes, the outrageous stories, the kooky drawings ... and the smiles and chuckles they would inevitably bring. As were Dan's wishes, there will be no formal service. We ask you to join us in a quiet toast to our wonderful Husband, our Dear Old Dad, our extra special Pops, our good, good friend ... and remember to raise your pinky when you do! We sincerely thank our loved ones and dear friends for stopping by to give us a hug and to help us celebrate Dan's life. Thank you also to Dr. Abu Dieh and staff at the Pine Falls Hospital for the care and compassion Dan received during his stay. Your donations in Dan's name would be warmly appreciated, to the Pine Falls District Health Care Foundation Inc., Box 2000, Pine Falls, MB R0E 1M0. |
