DON (DONAT) DESORCY  (published on April 22, 2006)

DON (DONAT) DESORCY (1932 - 2006) On Wednesday, April 19, 2006, Don, widower of Jeannette, left us surrounded by his children and grandchildren knowing he was finally to be reunited with the love of his life. Although our hearts are broken, we know this reunion was what he longed for in his life to come. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Ginette (Marc), Lucie, Paul (Yvonne). His most precious grandchildren, whom became the focus of his life after Jeannette's passing, Roxie (Jason), Eric, Kim (Don), Jeremy, Dawn and Matthieu. Predeceased by his parents, Emile and Marie Desorcy, brothers Paul and Jacques. He is survived by his brothers, Henri (Joey), Gilles (Claire) and Guillaume (Jeannette); sisters, Jeanne and Yvette. So precious to him were all of Jeannette's brothers and sisters and in-laws. He also leaves many nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved but are too numerous to mention. Our father was known for his musical talent. Many evenings were spent with family and good friends playing his guitar and singing songs, some of which he had composed for special occasions. He was a kind, gentle and wise soul, always lending a helping hand when needed and never expecting any thanks in return. He enjoyed the simple things in life and taught his children that it is easier to give than to receive. Ginette, Lucie and Paul experienced ongoing unconditional love from him until he had to leave them. The hours he spent with his grandchildren will be cherished and remembered forever. Whether as best friend, counsellor, chauffeur, advisor or mentor, he instilled in each of them a sense of what was important in life. A part of him remains alive within each one of them and he will live on in his children and grandchildren forever. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Thayaparan and the nursing staff of ward 4E at St. Boniface Hospital for the wonderful care Dad received while there. To Dr. DuPlessis and the nursing staff at DeSalaberry Hospital in St. Pierre-Jolys, thank you for making his last days meaningful, peaceful and filled with dignity. The comfort you extended to his grieving family will never be forgotten. Special thanks to Don's Mom, Mme Joƫlle Poirier, for ensuring we had plenty to drink and eat during those most difficult hours. His children and grandchildren thank their aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and co-workers for their ongoing support and understanding. It made a difficult time that much easier to bear. Special thanks to Yvonne for all your help throughout: organizing haircuts, baths, daily calls, noon visits, objective thinking and questions when we could not do so, and for all your love and understanding. He loved you as his daughter and Marc as his son and there are obvious reasons for this. Marc spent many hours tooling the urn that Dad would have wanted with precise craftsmanship and love. You are both an integral part of this family. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in his honour at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 24, at the St. Eugene Church, 1007 St. Mary's Rd., Winnipeg, Fr. Carriere will be officiating. Interment of the ashes to follow at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. If you so wish, donations may be made to the Humane Society in Winnipeg. A love of animals and nature was something he deeply shared with his children and grandchildren throughout his life. As babies, he sang this lullaby to his children and grandchildren too many times to mention. They fell asleep feeling special, loved and safe. It encompasses all that he represented to them: Viens dans mes bras mon enfant Il est temps de faire dodo Papa te vois, il t'entend, Il calmera tes sanglots Et quand que tu seras grand(e) Tu auras vite compris Que ton Papa, mon enfant C'est un homme du Paradis. Repose en paix, cher Papa et Pepere. A bientot. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
