ROGER (René) BOURGOUIN  (published on April 22, 2006)

ROGER (René) BOURGOUIN October 23, 1939 April 20, 2006 It is with broken hearts, and a devastating sense of sorrow that we announce the untimely passing of our most beloved and treasured husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend Roger René Bourgouin at the age of 66 years. Roger passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Thursday, April 20, 2006, surrounded by his loving family, at the Riverview Health Centre. Left with loving memories are his beloved wife and best friend, Jeanne (nee Verrier), of almost 44 years of marriage; his cherished daughter and health advocate, Nicole Carnegie (Ian) and his son and favourite golf partner Daniel (Lauren Becker). Pépère also leaves to mourn his adored little granddaughters - all two years of age and under, Meagan Carnegie, and Taylor and Jayde Bourgouin. Also leaving to mourn their beloved brother are Roger's five surviving siblings - Marie-Ange Dashensky (Leo), Marcel Bourgouin (Cécile), Lucille Mesley, Yvonne Touchette and his buddy his younger brother Paul Bourgouin (Lynda); as well as many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends too numerous to mention. He was predeceased by his parents Julien and Maria (nee Saindon) Bourgouin; brother George Bourgouin; sister Florence Bazin, as well as his sister-in-law Marie Bourgouin and his brother-in-law Maurice Touchette. Roger fought a valiant battle against the insidious disease of cancer. Never once did he complain. He always exuded a positive attitude, a deep faith, and the will to continue fighting his battle with determination, even though God's will was to come and take him home. Throughout his life Roger had many professions. An electrician by trade, he also worked many years as a real estate broker and a car broker. Semi retired, Roger worked part-time for the past four years at the airport as a security guard for AVION services. He loved his work, and it showed in the way he did his job. Always early for his shift, Roger was friendly, reliable, dependable and courteous to all airport staff. He made a point of remembering names, and to ask people how their day was. Roger loved sports. He spent many years bowling, competing at different levels. He and Jeanne travelled to many different places to participate in bowling tournaments. For the past 15 years though, he shifted his focus to the game of golf. Roger loved to golf! He could never get enough of it. Over the past few years Roger was fortunate enough to spend the winters in Texas at the Tropic Star Resort. There he was able to continue to golf over the winter months. Roger talked for the rest of the year about his three months in Texas. He looked forward to going every year, and cherished the many special friendships that he formed there. On the golf course, at the pool hall, or sitting at the table at Las Margaritas sharing breakfast with his friends, Roger loved the entire package. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday April 26 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Charles Roman Catholic Parish, 320 St. Charles St. with Rev. Fr. Terance P. McGrath presiding. A private family interment will occur at a later date. We would like to thank our wonderful family and friends for their unwavering support over the past eight months. Having you all there for us has made a very difficult and painful experience just a little bit easier to bear. We would also like to thank Dr. Garcia and the angels on 3E at the Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care Unit, namely our angel, nurse Helen. Thank-you for the care and compassion shown to our Dad. You respected his wishes, and continued to try and help him until the very end. For this, we are very thankful. In keeping with Roger's desire to help those less fortunate, and his love of children, we ask that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roger's memory to Dreams Take Flight P.O. Box 768, 355 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2N2. Dad, you were our angel on earth, dependable to a fault! If we needed you, you were always there for us. We will carry you in our hearts everywhere that we go. Our loss is definitely heaven's gain. Rest Dad free from pain. We love you so much. Enjoy the golf course in heaven until we meet again, XOXOXs. Roger's arrangements have been entrusted to the Family Owned Funeral Chapel of: WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 4665
