MONICA RIBAD PREZA (published on April 22, 2006)

MONICA RIBAD PREZA On the beautiful spring afternoon of April 15, 2006, Monica Preza peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family. She will be sadly missed by Pedro, her doting husband of 64 years, her nine surviving children, 25 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Monica will be affectionately remembered by her Winnipeg family, children, Carrie (Tom Yudai), Esmenia, Rey, Arnold (Vicky) and her grandchildren, Iris (Chris), Ruby (Matthew), Michael, Racheal, Xena, Katrina and Alyssa. Her family overseas in the Philippines and Singapore will also miss her, her half-siblings, Guillermo and Mercy; her sisters-in-law, Josefina, Anita, and Esperanza, and her children, Eddie (Corazon), Orlino (Caring), Estrella (Bernie), Cecilia, Benedicta (Morlito) and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Monica was born May 4, 1922 in Bantay, Ilocos Sur, Philippines. When she was 18, she was courted by a younger man, Pedro. She fell in love with his kind nature and sense of romance and they married soon after. Monica was a talented dressmaker but always preferred a game of mahjongg to work. She loved gardening, and passed her passion on to many of her children. In 1983, Monica, along with her husband and youngest son immigrated to Winnipeg to join her eldest daughter and her family. In Canada, Monica mastered her third language, English, by watching soap operas and game shows. She had an extremely generous spirit. She raised and educated many of her grandchildren, sending her pension money to pay their tuition fees. Her children called her Nanang, and to her grandchildren, she was Lola. Monica was predeceased by her parents, Carlos and Maura Ribad, her daughter Carlita (Gene) Paoa, her daughter-in-law Carol and her grandson Bernardo Junior. Friends are invited to pay respects on Tuesday, April 25, from 7:00 - 11:00 p.m. Prayers will take place at 8 p.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, April 26 at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed John XXIII at 3390 Portage Ave. Interment and reception to follow at Thomson In the Park Cemetery Her family would like to thank Lina and the Home Care staff and friends for their support and prayers.
