RUTH FAY (JOYCE) HAYMAN (published on November 07, 2007)

RUTH FAY (JOYCE) HAYMAN (nee YUEN) It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Joyce Hayman, on November 4, 2007, at Grace General Hospital, Winnipeg, at the age of 72 years. Joyce passed peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her father Chan ( Charlie ) Yuen and her mother Karen (Nee Gaylor). Her passing is mourned by Larry, her husband of 49 years, their son Keith, their daughter Gail and husband Dale Iwan, grandsons Cooper and Adam Iwan, Joyce's sister Margaret Gunn and her companion Pearl Wylie, nephew David Gunn (Mary) and by her many friends. Joyce was a lifelong resident of Winnipeg, attended Hugh John MacDonald and Daniel McIntyre. She worked at the Free Press and was a secretary at the Income Tax Department for six years before staying home to raise a family. A resident of Charleswood for 30 years, Joyce was a dedicated volunteer canvassing for heart and cancer charities, caring for young children at the United and Anglican churches and Beaumont School and serving as companion to the elderly at various Charleswood and Tuxedo Nursing Homes. Joyce was a dedicated Girl Guide and excelled in gymnastics and sports, playing softball and captaining her school volleyball team to a City Championship. She played tennis and badminton, bowled and curled. In her golden years she enjoyed ladies weekly snooker at Age Opportunity and played cards and board games with friends and on the computer. She was a frequent visitor to Assiniboine Park and enjoyed family picnics, camping, hiking and touring. In retirement she loved exploring the US Southwest, the Rockies, West Coast and Great Lakes. She was an enthusiastic participant in seniors' crafts and social activities. She will be remembered for her endearing smile, engaging personality and indomitable spirit. The family extends thanks to the many doctors who treated Joyce's complex health problems and in particular to the doctors and staff at Grace Hospital and HSC Oral Surgery. Cremation has been entrusted to Wereschuk Funeral Chapel. At Joyce's request there will be no service or memorial. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or the Salvation Army.
