JACOB KROEKER (published on December 04, 2007)

JACOB KROEKER Passed away peacefully on November 30, 2007 at Bethania Personal Care Home into the arms of his Lord and Saviour, surrounded by his beloved wife, children and granddaughter. Jacob was born January 30, 1924 in the Ukraine to Abram and Agathe Kroeker, the third of nine children. After the war in 1948, he immigrated to Paraguay to join his family. He met Anni and on July 1, 1950 they were married. They were blessed with two children, Frieda and Karl before moving to Canada in 1956. Their Canadian son Vic was born in 1960. In 1965 Jacob was baptized on confession of his faith. He actively and faithfully served in the Douglas Mennonite Church where he truly loved the many members of his church family. Jacob worked as a housepainter and enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life. For years he and Anni were beekeepers on their hobby farm, taking great pride in providing North Kildonan with top grade clover honey. Together they also dabbled in tree planting, U Pick raspberry farming and maintaining beautiful vegetable and flower gardens on their farm as well as hosting yearly barbeques for family and friends. Their cottage at Lester Beach was a source of joy for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed growing grapes and making wine. For years he enjoyed football games, Saturday night hockey, hunting and fishing with his sons, brother and brother-in-law. Anni and Jacob also enjoyed 30 years of winter vacations in Acapulco, Puerta Vallerta, Hawaii and the Dominican. When he was no longer able to do these, he kept active by taking long walks and playing dominoes with friends. Jacob's greatest source of pride was his growing family, nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren of which Cooper Jacob carries his name. He will be sorely missed by his devoted wife Anni and their children, Frieda (Jerry) Devuono, Karl (Jackie) Kroeker, Vic (Nicole) Kroeker and their families. Also mourning his loss are his sisters, Tina Kroeker, Agathe Peters, Mika (Peter) Regier, Aenny (Hans) Hamm and Susie (Peter) Loewen, as well as many brothers, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Hans, Abe, and Hein Kroeker; brother-in-law Vic Wiebe; and niece Nancy Penner. Funeral service will be held Thursday, December 6, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at Douglas Mennonite Church, 1517 Rothesay, with viewing prior to the service. Interment to follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Flowers gratefully declined and donations may be made to Bethania Personal Care Home. FRIENDS FUNERAL SERVICE 2146 Main Street 339-5555
