CLARENCE LECHNER (published on December 22, 2007)

CLARENCE LECHNER 1925 - 2007 After a courageous battle with cancer, it is with deep regret that we announce the death of Clarence Lechner on December 20, 2007 at his home in Winnipeg, Manitoba surrounded by his family. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife Iris; daughters, Sandra, Glenda, Jo-Anne (Jim Thompson) and Kim (Larry Wilson) as well as grandchildren, Christiana and Graeme Mellway, Scott and Jennifer Thompson, and Kaylee and Danielle Wilson, his sister Irene Alsop, brother-in-law Russell Burkitt, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Albert, Jack, Leon and sister Edna Burkitt. Born and educated in Morden, Manitoba, Clarence served in the South Pacific with the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. After the war he returned to Morden before moving to Miami, Manitoba where he was a member of the Legion and Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department. In Winnipeg, he volunteered at both Augustine and Fort Garry United churches, and was involved in Neighbourhood Watch and fundraising for various charities. Being an active man, he was a member of the Reh-Fit Centre and enjoyed traveling, golfing, dancing, curling, theatre and playing bridge. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 24 at 1:30 p.m. at Broadway Disciples United Church, 396 Broadway. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Heart Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
