THERESA BALITSKY (published on December 22, 2007)

THERESA BALITSKY (1944 2007) The family is saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Theresa Marie Balitsky on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 63 years. Theresa will be greatly missed by her brother, Larry Balitsky, his wife Colleen and cherished niece, Sarah (William's Lake, BC). She also leaves to mourn her uncle Michael Balitsky, wife Diane (Brandon, MB) and numerous cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Mary (Apostle) and Stephen Balitsky. Theresa was born June 18, 1944 in Toronto, ON. She spent her formative years there, then moved to Manitoba in the early 1960s after her mother's passing to continue living close to her family whose roots were centered in Stead and Winnipeg. She trained as a secretary at Red River College, also worked there and with other secretarial services and at St. Mary's Academy with her aunt Sr. Ann Olga. Theresa volunteered at Health Sciences Gift Shop (17 years), at Polson School (library aide) and for the Tenants' Association (secretary) at Kildonan Horizons. Kildonan Horizons was Theresa's home for the last twelve years she enjoyed her friends there as well the activities associated with the complex, game nights and special events. Being an avid reader, Theresa's favourite author was Margaret Lawrence, her favourite book Stone Angel. She was delighted to visit her museum in Neepawa two summers ago. As well as enjoying great books, Theresa loved movies, and was an interesting conversationalist but her greatest gift was her gentle nature, her quiet presence and her ability to listen with compassion. Theresa's fondest wish in the last few years was to return to Toronto; she accomplished that in November 2006. Accompanied by her cousins she visited her mother's gravesite and her family home. It was a moving, but fun experience for her she visited old haunts, met family and re-connected with her childhood memories. Theresa has completed her journey here and traveled to her heavenly home . We will all miss her dearly. Theresa our rose Near or far, wherever we are, We will always know your voice . Know that you are loved and finally free! Our heartfelt appreciation is extended to the staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their caring in the last few months. Our greatest thanks go out to those family and friends, who supported Theresa throughout her journey and visited her in the hospital. She was grateful. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service and mass will be held in late July 2008. Details will be announced then. If family and friends so choose, doing an anonymous act of kindness in Theresa's memory would be appreciated. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
