| HELEN LOEWEN (Mrs. John D. Loewen) At the age of 96, our Mom passed away peacefully in her sleep at Woodhaven Manor, Steinbach, on December 19, 2007. On September 8, 1911, Helen was born to Johann and Maria Unger in Blumenhof, Manitoba, as the tenth child of thirteen. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings. At 31, she married John D. Loewen and became mother to his children Marian (Stan Houghton), Ramona (Henry Klassen), Lloyd, Jack (Helen), and Corrine (Alfred Warkentin). Born to her were Barry, Leander, Loris, Kelvin (Jocelyn), and Priscilla (Daryl Martz). She has been blessed by 31 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren. She loved each one and remembered all their names and birthdays. Her passion for many years was quilting and crocheting, and her handiwork is still being enjoyed. Helen was predeceased by her stepson Lloyd in 1944, and by two infant grandchildren and later by her husband John in 1967. The funeral service will be held Thursday, December 27, 2007, at 2:00 p.m., at the Evangelical Mennonite Church, 422 Main Street, Steinbach, MB, with viewing at the church prior to the service.
