JOYCE BOYD (published on December 22, 2007)

JOYCE BOYD (nee HUBNER) After twelve years at River East Personal Care Home, our mother passed away peacefully to join Victor on Friday, December 14, 2007 with her loving family at her side. Remaining to forever cherish mom's memories are her children, Dave (Heather) Boyd, Judy (Bill) Ralph, Mary Ellen Lavoie, and grandchildren Chris and Steve, Mark and Paul, and Chantal and Daniel, sister Lois (Jack) London of Whiterock, B.C., nieces Mary and Sharon and nephew John, cousin Pat (Chuck) James of Lethbridge, niece Kathy and nephews Doug and John and cousin Lillian English of Winnipeg and nephew Rick. Joyce was born on September 26, 1927 in Winnipeg, attended St. Mary's Academy and married Dad the love of her life in 1948. Mom was fiercely loyal to her family and was devoted to her husband, children and to their lives. Part of this legacy are the things that she was passionately delighted about - Sunday dinners and lengthy toasts, laughter, bright blue eyes, making everyone's birthday special memorable days, always elegant dinners, Winnipeg Sweet Adeline's Choir, Christmas with our cousins from Montreal, singing contests with Chuck or Heather on piano, St. Paul of the Apostle Choir, slideshows, manager of girls' soft ball team, ladies and mixed bridge clubs, Lawrence Welk, dancing, breakfast on the patio, her Dresden, shopping and knowing every deal, skimpy tube tops, romantic novels, soft loving touches, her wink, red lipstick, kisses on cards, letters and lottery tickets, high heels, tea in silver service, creamed asparagus on toast, camping at Falcon, the Rowand Street Gang, really hot baths, Kelekis and Lockport, car rides, the knack of being late on time, Meals on Wheels volunteer, ham sandwiches at midnight, roasting marshmallows and winter trips and cruises. While mom may have not initially taken easily to being called Nana (she thought she was too young), she was proud and lovingly helped her grandchildren dearly. Please join us in celebrating Joyce's life at St. John Brebeuf Church at Renfrew and Fleet at 10:30 a.m. on January 9, 2008. Cremation has occurred and private internment will follow at a later date. The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the many individual staff at River East for their great care and compassion offered throughout the years; special note to E-wing. If so desired, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society.
