ROSE GWENDOLYN FERRIES (published on December 24, 2007)

ROSE GWENDOLYN FERRIES On December 21, 2007 Rose Gwendolyn Ferries (nee Vasey) died at home. She is survived by her husband Digby, and two children, Carol Nikkel (Allan) and Ross Ferries (Lara) and three grandchildren, Steven, Matthew, and Rebecca Nikkel. She will be dearly missed by her twin sister Catherine; her husband George Marlin and their family as well as her mother Dorothy Vasey and her sister-in-law June-Anne Ferries. She also leaves two other sisters, Anne Dunlop and Heather Yakimoski and their families as well as a wide circle of relatives and friends. Rose was born in Elkhorn, Manitoba and was raised and spent most of her life in Winnipeg. She thought of herself as having three careers. She began as a high school teacher in Morris, Manitoba and St. James, was a stay-at-home mother when her children were young and then combined her gifts of teaching and nurturing as a Lay Minister in the United Church of Canada for 27 years. Rose was always a morning person and one of her favourite Scripture passages was: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3: 22-23) In retirement, Rose became an active member of St. Andrew's River Heights United Church and her funeral service will be held there at 7:00 p.m. on December 27, 2007 to be followed later by a private interment service. Rose appreciated flowers sent to her when she was living. If you wish to remember her in this way, please take a bouquet to a friend who is ill or a neighbour who is lonely. If any wish to make memorial donations in honour of Rose's life, the family commends to you the Foundation of St. Andrews River Heights United Church or Ovarian Cancer Canada.
