CASIMIR ALEKSANDER SPECHT (published on December 24, 2007)

CASIMIR ALEKSANDER SPECHT May 6, 1929 December 21, 2007 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather Cass, on Friday, December 21, 2007 at the age of 78 years. Surviving him are his wife Terry; son Garry (Lynda); granddaughter Meg; daughter Cathy Matte and grandsons, Joshua and Jesse; his sisters, Vicky Blair, Irene (Gerry) Watson, Bernice (Omer) Lavasseur; sisters-in-law Jean Rokosh, Sophie (Jack) Boardman and numerous nieces and nephews. Dad was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Lac du Bonnet. In 1964 he began his career with CNR/Via Rail Canada. In his last years at Via dad was an Inspector on-board the train in the winter and was an Instructor throughout the spring and summer. Dad enjoyed instructing and took pride in all the young people that he trained. He also had many opportunities to be a Tour Escort for Via Rail and for Lobstick Tours. Mom and Dad were able to travel all over Canada, the United States and cruised the Caribbean. Dad was a real handyman and not only worked on his own home, but was always helping others with their own projects. Cooking was another passion of his; you could always find him in the kitchen. So it was no surprise after 29 years with CN/Via dad semi-retired and opened Cass Catering. There was lots of food and laughter over the next six years, until dad officially retired. Dad loved being with his family and in his retirement enjoyed golfing and fishing. He loved to travel out east to visit his brothers and sisters spread throughout Ontario. In these last few years dad enjoyed his early morning coffees with his friends, helping out with Spaghetti Dinners during camp weeks at the church and giving Arne a few pointers on his golf game. You were a quiet man yet you filled all the corners of our life. We love you and we miss you dearly. We will be having a celebration of dad's life on Thursday, December 27 at 1:00 p.m. at East Kildonan Baptist Church, 700 Watt St. Winnipeg In lieu of flowers you are welcome to make a donation to The East Kildonan Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 700 Watt Street, Winnipeg, MB R2K 2S7 or to the A.L.S. Society.
