Willie was born November 9, 1925, in Plau, Germany. He came with his wife and daughter to Canada in February 1951 to start a new life. He was hardworking and retired from McGavins Bakery in l987. Grampa was the fiery spark of our family. He was passionate about his family and happiest when surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandson. Grampa loved playing cards with his friends and he also enjoyed listening to music, reading, bowling and golfing. In his earlier years he was an avid fisherman and hunter. Willie is survived by his daughter Ruth (Ron), grandchildren, Darren, Karen (Bruce), Brenda, great-grandson Liam, son Ron (Charlene), grandchildren, Dawn, Kristy (Reed), Michael (Shauna). He is also survived by many relatives in Germany. He was predeceased by his wife, Alice in July 2006 and also his parents Frieda and Walter. For many years Mom and Dad enjoyed their Hobby Farm at Riverton where they entertained many friends with food and laughter. Grampa especially loved the farm and felt most at peace being out in nature looking up at the stars and watching the satellites. Mom and Dad loved to travel with friends and did so for many years. Their trips included Germany, Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic and Hawaii. They also explored Canada, covering the country from coast to coast. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave. (entrance on Aubrey Street). The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit for the excellent care given to our Father. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in William's memory to St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation, Palliative Care Fund, 409 Tache Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2A 2A6.
