EDRA IRENE SLOANE (published on January 15, 2008)

EDRA IRENE SLOANE (nee SMITH) July 3, 1925 January 11, 2008 It is with much sadness that the family announces the passing of Edra Sloane, beloved wife of Chriss, at the Carman Memorial Hospital on Friday evening, January 11, 2008 at the age of 82. With family at her side, a life well lived ended peacefully. Edra is fondly remembered by Chriss, her loving husband of more than 63 years. As well, she will be greatly missed by her sons, Murray (Glenda) of Winnipeg, MB and Brian (Dianne) of High Bluff, MB; five grandsons, David (Carolyn) of Calgary, AB, Bruce of Winnipeg, Jason (Shawna) of Calgary, AB, Jonathan of Morden, MB, and Gren (Twila) of Giroux, MB; and her two very special great-grandchildren, Jason's daughter Morgan and son Jared. Also surviving Edra are her twin sister Alda (Mrs. David Bartley) of Carman, MB and nephews Ryan and Warren (Angela) of Winnipeg and her sister Margaret (Mrs. (Howell) Marriott) of Kenton, MB, niece Lynda Howell of Calgary, and nephew Wayne Howell of Kenton. She will also be missed by her sister-in-law Jean (Mrs. C. Procter) of Airdrie, AB, niece Joan (Mrs. Gary Montgomery) of Airdrie and nephews Milton Procter of Oshkosh, WI, U.S.A. and Tom Procter. Edra was predeceased by her brothers-in-law David Bartley, Raymond Howell and Claire Procter as well as her parents Wyatt and Myrtle (nee Shaw) Smith. Born in Roland and raised near Myrtle, Manitoba, Edra married Chriss in 1944. She and Chriss resided in the Roland District for 46 years where they farmed, raised their family and enjoyed community life. She particularly enjoyed membership in the Rebecca Lodge (Roland Chapter), square dancing, and travelling, occasionally spending winter months in Arizona and Texas. In 1990, she and Chriss retired to Carman where she continued her winter-time RV excursions and shared even more of her time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She touched the hearts of many, and made each one feel special. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the Carman Home Care staff for their assistance over the past several years and especially to the Carman Memorial Hospital medical and nursing staff for their kindness and care during the recent several months. Cremation has taken place, with interment at the Fairview Cemetery, Roland, MB to follow at a later date. A celebration of Edra's life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 18, 2008 at Doyle's Funeral Chapel in Carman, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Edra may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or other charity organization(s) if preferred. Doyle's Funeral Home, Carman, in care of arrangements. (
