NYKOLA MARKOWSKY  (published on March 13, 2008)

NYKOLA MARKOWSKY (NICK) Nykola (Nick) Markowsky passed away peacefully at home, on March 9, 2008 at the age of 84 years, with his wife Lola (Lolly) by his side. He was predeceased by his daughter, Judy; father, John; sister, Anne; mother, Wasylena; brothers, John, William John and Bohdan. He leaves to celebrate his life: his wife and lifelong partner of 57 years, Lola (Lolly), daughter Lynda (John) Fulton, only grand daughter Laryssa, and brother Fred (Ruth) Markowsky of Wakaw, SK. Many nieces, nephews and friends will also cherish his memory. Born December 11, 1923 Nick grew up in Rosthern, SK. At the age of 17, Nick proudly enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force 423 Squadron. After the Air Force Nick settled in Prince Albert where he met Lolly at the City Market. Thus began their lifelong partnership of marriage and commitment to the grocery business and each other. Nick was at the cutting edge of wholesale grocery stores when he and his business partner started the LOCOMART Retail Food Warehose in Yorkton, SK. Lolly and he worked side by side to make their life's ventures a success. The stores expanded to Saskatoon, Brandon, Selkirk and Winnipeg. Nick retired from groceries in the mid seventies, which allowed him and Lolly to travel extensively including a once in a lifetime trip to Japan with the Winnipeg Jets, Scotland, England and many of the resort islands. In the seventies Nick and his brother Bill also returned to the Ukraine to visit their homeland. A celebration of Nick's life will be held Friday, March 14, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the kindness, care and support provided by Dr. A. N. Schroeder, Dr. Pat Harris, Dr. George Hutfluss and Dr. N. MacEarhern to Nick over the past several years. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Grace Hospital would be appreciated. Arrangements are entrusted to Chapel Lawn. The Body is Mortal, but the person dwelling in the body is immortal and immeasurable. Bhagavad Gita CHAPEL LAWN 885-9715
