DOROTHY M. EDEN (published on July 12, 2008)

DOROTHY M. EDEN October 6, 1931 - July 10, 2008 Peacefully after a valiant struggle Mom finally went to rest at St. Boniface Hospital. Mom entered hospital in early March for heart surgery and because of other ailments never fully recovered. There were times during her four month struggle that she rallied and we thought she had won the battle. Mom overcame a multitude of illnesses including breast cancer in 1981. Mom was the toughest when it came to beating the odds. Dorothy is survived by her loving daughters, Barbara Culbertson (Ron), Jan Hayward (Frank) and her beautiful granddaughter Shelby Hayward and her father Lorne. She is also survived by her beloved Aunt Win Birch (Tom) and her sisters-in-law Nancy Hutchison, Jess Laskey (Dan) and Gladys Eden, all of whom she thought of as the sisters she never had. Mom lost the love of her life Leslie in March of 2007, and we believe that was the day her heart broke. There wasn't a day that went by that she didn't grieve for Dad. Mom was also predeceased by her parents Ted and Dorothy Lang, as well as her in-laws Harold and Edith Eden. Mom worked briefly at Winnipeg Envelope, but her greatest joy was raising Barb and Jan. We were often told Mom couldn't wait until the day she got the call that one of us had arrived. Barb and Jan were blessed to be the chosen daughters of Les and Dorothy no two daughters could have asked for better parents. Mom's greatest joy was to be a stay at home mom and look after our small but happy family. She was able to relive that joy when her only granddaughter Shelby was born. Mom and Dad moved out to the cottage at Sunset Bay where they lived for many happy years. When circumstances made them move back to the City Mom kept busy with the Seniors Group at her apartment. Mom loved interaction and upon Dad's passing became involved with a group at the YMCA. Mom missed her group terribly during her stay in hospital. At Mom's request cremation has taken place and there will be no service. She would want everyone to remember the good times we all shared. Donations can be made in her name to either the Manitoba Lung Association or the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Barb and Jan would like to thank the many doctors and care givers, as well as the staff at the St. Boniface Hospital for the care and compassion they offered her in the last four months. Barb and Jan take solace in knowing that their Mom and Dad are now back together. Arrangements entrusted to Transcona Funeral Chapel.
