ELSIE DAHL (published on July 12, 2008)

ELSIE DAHL (nee POPKO) May 14, 1931 July 10, 2008 It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of our dear Wife, Mother, Baba, Great-grandmother, Sister, and Aunt, Elsie Dahl, due to complications of Multiple Sclerosis from which Elsie struggled with for over 40 years. Elsie was born and raised in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, receiving her education and where she would later meet and marry her beloved husband, Darwin Dahl, in May 1953. Together Elsie and Darwin raised five children. Elsie was a devoted wife and mother who took great pride in her family, gardening, cooking, and ensuring that who ever visited her home was always welcomed with open arms and a home-cooked meal. Elsie was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Mary, her stepmother, Tekla, stepsister, Ann Tanchuk, and stepbrother, Joe Bodnar. Elsie is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Darwin; her five children: Gaylene, Debra (Bob), Tammy (Afzal), Darwin Jr. (Adriana) and Lorri; as well as nine grandchildren: Michelle (James), Laura, Jennifer, Matthew, Joseph, Alyssa, Nicholas, Sage and Mikaela; and great-grandson Tyler. Elsie is also survived by her brother John Popko and stepbrother Mike Bodnar, as well as many nieces and nephews. We will be forever grateful to the staff of the W.R.H.A. Home Care Program, especially the H.C.A's and nurses, many of who Elsie was very fond, and who provided excellent care to her for over 10 years. We are equally grateful to the staff of the W.R.H.A. Palliative Care Program, without whom, Elsie would not have been able to remain at home until her passing. We thank Dr. Darczewski for her kindness, care and concern throughout Elsie's journey. In keeping with Elsie's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 14, Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Interment will follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Elsie to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, MB Division, 100 1465 Buffalo Place, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 1L8, or the charity of one's choice.
