HELEN CATHERINE OLSON (published on July 12, 2008)

HELEN CATHERINE OLSON (DAVIES) May 7, 1931 - July 10, 2008 It is with deep sorrow we announce the peaceful and comfortable passing of Helen Catherine Olson, with her family by her side, at River East Personal Care Home. She is survived by daughters Pennie Olson (Brett Eckstein), Patty Duguid, (Randy) and her three beloved grandchildren, Marlee, Heather and Keenan. Mom is also survived by her brother Bob Davies (Vivian) and nephew Reid (Fran). Mom was predeceased by her husband Roland, mother Wanda and father Chauncey. Mom's gentle, kind and generous nature drew many close friends in her life. She was always willing to lend a helping hand in any way she could. Her caring ways were evident in how many people loved her. Her dear friends Vivian Davies, Betty Solomon, Anne Warga and goddaughter Val Cathro were with her to the end. Mom worked for the federal government until she started a family and chose to stay home to raise her daughters and care for her husband Roland. She kept busy during that time sewing bunny oven mitts which she happily displayed at many REACA craft shows. Mom was a great bridge player and made a lot of lifelong friends in her many bridge clubs. Mom's strong faith and involvement with her church community at Immanuel United Church helped her through many struggles in her life. After 25 years at home, she went back to work, got her driver's license, bought a car and loved the freedom the car brought her. Mom's real passion was her family. Some of mom's favourite things were Sunday dinners with the family, spending time with family and friends at her cottage, first in Whytewold, then in Winnipeg Beach, playing cards and Scrabble, reading, trips to the Casino, family shopping trips to Grand Forks and above all spending time with her precious grandchildren. Funeral details will be announced at a later date. We would sincerely like to thank the staff of River East Personal Care Home for their loving, dedicated care of Mom over the last three and a half years, and especially through her last days with us. Flowers gratefully declined, donations can be made to The Arthritis Society or The Winnipeg Humane Society. We love you Mom and Grandma
