SARAH HIEBERT (published on July 12, 2008)

SARAH HIEBERT (nee GERBRANDT) 1920 - 2008 On Sunday, July 6, 2008, Sarah passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital with family present. Remaining to forever cherish Sarah's memory are her four daughters and their partners Lydia Giles and Luther Pokrant, Roberta Esther Gillis, Ruth and Richard Moir, and Martha Hiebert; grandchildren and their partners, Paul Giles and Sharron McMillan, Jonathon Giles and Lorraine Gomez, Cindy Wiebe, Geoff and Ina Greening, Erin Gillis, Andrew Gillis, Sharon Moir and Chris Burdge, and Carrie Moir and Brad Eburne; and great- grandchildren, Devin, Sarah, Isaac and Elliot. She was predeceased by her husband John and daughter Judith Greening. Sarah dreamed of being a nurse, but instead took on the multi-tasking role of wife and mother on a small mixed farm in Gnadenfeld. She married John Hiebert in 1947, and raised five daughters. Sarah managed a large household that included ailing in-laws, large gardens, canning, milking twice a day, cooking, cleaning, plus myriad farm chores. July 1967, John and Sarah sold the farm and moved to Winnipeg where she entered the paid workforce. She worked in the Eatons bake shop for several years. When she retired, she was assistant cook at Grace Hospital. After retirement, she took on the daytime care of several of her youngest and very fortunate grandchildren - Jonathon, Carrie and Sharon. Five years ago Sarah decided to make the transition to assisted living at Kiwanis Courts, where she enjoyed the gardens, residents and staff. Over the years, Sarah made quilts for the MCC; and knitted winter wear for Union Gospel Mission. She lived to be of service and always strived to do her best. She was loved very much and will be missed by everyone who knew her. Sarah's memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 12 at 2:00 p.m. in the Crestview Fellowship Church, 271 Hamilton Avenue, Winnipeg. At her request, Sarah will be buried in the Gnadenfeld Cemetery with her husband, John, and daughter, Judith. WOJCIK'S FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665
