GRACE ELIZABETH MOORE (published on July 15, 2008)



GRACE ELIZABETH MOORE (nee ARMSTRONG) 1914 - 2008 Peacefully on Thursday, July 10, 2008 Grace died at the Grace Hospital at the age of 94 years. Grace will be forever missed by her son Neil Moore of Edmonton; daughter Lois Klaponski (Brian) and their son Adam. She is also survived by her sister Jean Armstrong, brother David Armstrong and sister-in-law Harlaine Armstrong, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Grace was predeceased by an infant son (1952); her husband Richard (Dick) Moore (1996); parents John Armstrong (1947) and Janet (Pitt) Armstrong (1972); brothers John (2004) and Norman (2005) Armstrong and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Grace was born on February 24, 1914 on the Armstrong family farm south of Sinclair, Manitoba. She attended Crescent and Sinclair Schools and graduated from Brandon College in 1933 and from the University of Saskatchewan, Faculty of Education in 1934. She taught high school in many towns in southern Manitoba before marrying Richard (Dick) Moore in 1944. Grace continued tutoring and working at the Correspondence Branch of the Department of Education for some time after her marriage. In later years, Grace's family was the centre of her life. She also had many wonderful friends dating as far back as her Brandon College days. Grace was an excellent cook and many memories of her involve family occasions and food. Grace was also an accomplished knitter and bridge player. She made many close friends in her Carman and St. James Bridge Clubs. According to Grace's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 18, 2008 in St. James Anglican Church, 195 Collegiate Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba. The family would like to thank the staff at Metropolitan Kiwanis Courts, Home Care, and the 5th floor of Grace Hospital for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial donations in Grace's memory may be made to the Grace Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, R3J 3M7 or Meals on Wheels of Winnipeg, 500-283 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, R3B 2B5 or a charity of your choice.
