SKIP (ALFRED JOHN) CARRIERE (published on July 15, 2008)

SKIP (ALFRED JOHN) CARRIERE Peacefully on July 11, 2008 we announce the passing of our father, Skip (Alfred John) Carriere at the age of 76 years. Skip will be sadly missed and always remembered by his children, Jeff and wife Lisa, Rick and Karen, Al and wife Janice, and Allyson Rowe and husband Paul; ten grand-children, Ben, Matt, Sammi, Alex, Tyler, Jesse, Jake, Sarah, Kyle and Cary; brother Hugh and wife Donna and sister-in-law Katie, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his loving wife Grace and infant son Douglas, parents Gus and Josie, sister Doris and brother-in-law Tom, brother Leo, sister Sandra and brother Butch. Skip was born in Great Falls, MB on February 19, 1932. He worked his entire career at Manitoba Hydro from 1955 until he retired in 1993. During this time he worked in many departments and on many projects and eventually became Superintendent of Surveying, Winnipeg River Division. Dad strongly believed in education and attended the University of Manitoba; he received a Bachelor of Science degree and a Masters degree in Geology. Dad loved sports, especially the Toronto Blue Jays and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, which he held season's tickets for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, curling, cross-country skiing at Bird's Hill Park and camping on long family trips throughout Canada and the United States. Skip and Grace were married on September 21, 1956 and settled in North Kildonan. They lived on Edison Avenue from 1961 until 1993 where they raised their four children and were involved in various sports and community events. Dad was a happy-go-lucky person who enjoyed a good time, especially with his family. Although he will be sadly missed, he leaves us countless wonderful memories. In tears we saw you sinking. We watched you fade away, You suffered much in silence, You fought so hard to stay, You faced your task with courage, Your spirit did not bend But still you kept on fighting Until the very end God saw you getting tired, When a cure was not to be, So He put His loving arms around you, And whispered, Come to Me So when we saw you sleeping So peacefully, free from pain We could not wish you back To suffer that again In God's own time, we will meet again. The family would like to thank the staff of River East Personal Care Home, Hope Haven Neighborhood, for taking excellent care of Skip. Special thanks to Pat, Margaret, Rosie and April for their compassion and caring. A celebration of Skip's life will be held on Friday, July 18, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Highway, Winnipeg, MB. Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations in Skip's memory may be made to River East Personal Care Home, 1375 Molson Street, R3L 2P4 or a charity of your choice.
