LORNE ALLEN VOPNI (published on August 22, 2008)

LORNE ALLEN VOPNI It is with great sadness, we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, Lorne Allen Vopni, at the age of 46 on Tuesday, August 19, 2008. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 23 years Leona (nee Kinast), daughter Allison, son Duncan and his faithful companion Tigger. He will also be very sadly missed by his sisters Theresa (Ron), April (Darrell), Nadine (Gary), Geraldine (Victor), Colleen (Richard) and his brother Robin (Kathy), his in-laws Evelyn (Richard), Henry (Debbie), Diana (Terry), Ernie (Lori), Gerald (Sherri) and his favourite mother-in-law Ursula Kinast, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nephews, great-nieces, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Florence and Duncan Vopni, sister Sandra Chaput, nephew Dale Foerster and father-in-law Lou Kinast. Lorne was most proud of his family and they meant the world to him. He was so very proud of his children. He spent many years as the chauffeur for Allison and her friends no matter what time of day or night he was called and spent many years helping Duncan with his paper route. He loved watching his kids playing soccer, ringette, bowling and dance. He looked forward every year to his anniversary getaways with Leona. He made many great memories for his family during all the camping trips to Birds Hill Park and Lilac Resort, and the road trips to Edmonton, Banff, Calgary, Medicine Hat, North Dakota and Minnesota. Lorne was larger than life and made friends wherever he went. He spent many hours fishing, woodworking, watching James Bond movies, playing cards and drinking his morning coffee on the deck while watching his hummingbirds. He was famous for his home-made cabbage rolls and sweet n sour meatballs. Due to his poor health, Lorne was unable to work for the past few years but was always there to lend a hand to family and friends when he was feeling well. He was everybody's handyman. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the family home on Friday, August 22nd, 2008 beginning at 2:00 p.m. The family would like to thank Dr. R. Lindenschmidt and Bev and Dr. W. Kepron for their many years of excellent care. Honorary pallbearers are his special buddies: Terry Burzuik, Kory Chaput, Matt Matson, Jeremy Smolinski, Brent Robertson and Larissa Johannson. Lorne loved to volunteer at the annual WTC family picnic and Lord Selkirk High School Safe grad. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Selkirk Safe Grad at 221 Mercy Street or a charity of your choice. We'll love you forever, and ever, and always daddy. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
