JOSEPH (JOE) TSCHETTER (published on August 22, 2008)

JOSEPH (JOE) TSCHETTER 1923 - 2008 With great sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph Tschetter, of Winnipeg, MB, on Monday, August 18, 2008 at the Maples Personal Care home at the age of 85 years. Joe will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 60 years of marriage, Rachel; children, Harold, Sarah (Wayne), Joe (Donna), Sam (Marcy), Marion (Jason), Ernie (predeceased: 1956-2006) (Darlene), Mike (Wendy), Arthur (Laurie), Margaret (Brian), Gary (Laura), Katherine, Elaine (Willem); 19 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, as well as many relatives and friends. Joseph was born in 1923 on the Barrickman Colony in St. Francois Xavier, Manitoba. In 1947, he married the love of his life Rachel Hofer and together they had 12 children. On the colony, Joseph was the poultry manager and was responsible for taking care of thousands of turkeys, ducks and geese. In 1966, Joseph and his family moved to Winnipeg, where they started their next chapter in life. Joseph worked several jobs with his latest being at Wilson Auto Electric, where he retired in 1991 after 20 years. Upon his retirement, Joseph enjoyed many hobbies including doing daily puzzles, taking long walks, knitting hundreds of pairs of socks and mittens for the homeless, tending his grapevines and spending time with his family. Joseph particularly enjoyed spending time with Rachel in his backyard on their swing under the apple tree. Dad had an off the wall sense of humour which at times was brought out in his ideas. He was a man of few words and enjoyed quiet one on one times with his family and friends. Joseph was a deeply devoted Christian and lived his life as a quiet faithful man. Public viewing will take place on Friday, August 22 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue. Joseph's funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 23 at 1:00 p.m. in the Grace Christian Church, 50 Barnes Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba. The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at the Maples Personal Care Home, as well as all our friends and family who showed support and prayers through this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made in Joseph's name to the Grace Christian Church-WCG, or a charity of your choice.
