H. (HART) W. BOWSFIELD (published on August 23, 2008)



H. (HART) W. BOWSFIELD July 7, 1922 to August 10, 2008 It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved brother and uncle at the O'Neill Centre, Toronto, ON on August 10. He leaves to mourn his sisters Ruth (Alec) Bloodworth and Margaret E. Cook, also six nieces and nephews, 13 great nieces and nephews and one great great nephew. Hart was predeceased by his parents Walter and May Bowsfield. Hart was a graduate of University of Manitoba, served in the RCAF and was Manitoba Provincial Archivist for 15 years (1952 to 1967). He received his PHD from the University of Toronto then went to York University and became a professor of history. He was York University's first archivist. He was a devotee of Manitoba history. Hart researched, authored, and edited books on Louis Riel and other topics of interest relevant to Manitoba history, in particular the Hudson Bay Company. He retired as a Professor Emeritus and was given the honour of becoming a member of York University Founders Club. Cremation has taken place. There will be a private burial in Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
