JOYCE MARY ROTH (published on August 23, 2008)

JOYCE MARY ROTH (nee WEBSTER) Joyce, beloved mother, sister and friend passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 in Scarborough, Ontario. She was born in Winnipeg on October 22, 1921 the second daughter of Amy Gertrude and G. Frank Webster. Joy grew up in Fort Rouge attending La Verendrye, Earl Grey and Kelvin schools. She was employed by Bulman Bros. Ltd. where she met her future husband, Alfred Roth and they were married at St. Luke's Anglican Church on August 6, 1948. Joyce, Alf and daughter Jean moved to Toronto in 1954 returning often to Winnipeg to visit family and friends and enjoy vacationing at Fox Lake (Wade, Ontario). Joy was predeceased by her parents and Alfred her husband of 53 years. Remaining to cherish Joyce's memory are her daughter Jean and sister Vera Webster of Winnipeg and sister Marge Ward of Kelowna. She will be lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law Anna Feldman; niece Margaret Lima; great-nieces, Janet Quiring (husband Ron) and Michele Beauchemin (children, Robert and Nicole), all of Winnipeg and many dear friends here and in Toronto. Joyce attended St. George's Anglican Church, Scarborough for over 50 years. She was a past president of the Chancel Guild, an active member of the ACW and latterly was Assistant Treasurer and served on the Advisory Board. She was always available to help her family and friends and to knit, sew and bake for the church. After retiring from Cencal Sales, she enjoyed bowling with the Hilltop ladies senior league and quilting with her friends at St. George's. Joy was a fine Christian lady whose strong faith sustained her following her stroke in September 2006. The family would like to thank the special friends in Toronto who gave so generously of their time to visit and minister to Joyce during her long illness. Thanks also to the staff of Extendicare Guildwood and the outstanding caregivers on the East Wing for their kindness and compassion, especially Enid Lewis. According to Joyce's wishes, cremation has taken place. A service to honour and celebrate Joy's life was held on Monday, July 21 at St. George's Anglican Church, Scarborough. A graveside service and interment will take place in Winnipeg on Wednesday, August 27 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John's Cathedral Cemetery, 135 Anderson Avenue.
