ERNEST (ERNIE) JOHN BENNETT (published on August 23, 2008)

ERNEST (ERNIE) JOHN BENNETT It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Ernie Bennett on Monday, August 18, 2008, in Vista Park Lodge, at the age of 89 years. Ernie was predeceased by his wife Adrienne, brother Tom, sisters Joan and Ivy. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Lawrence (Hilde) and Brian (Cheryl); grandchildren, Amanda (Billy), Melissa (Jon), Chris (Marni), Karen and Dustin. He is also survived by his brother Harry and sisters, Winnie, Dolly and Lilly. Ernie was born on August 24, 1918 in Inwood, Manitoba and moved to Winnipeg with his family when he was a teenager. Ernie went on to serve his country in the Second World War with the Winnipeg Rifles and was one of the first to see action on D-Day. Upon his return to Winnipeg, Ernie met his wife Adrienne while working at the Kiewels Brewery. They were married on August 7, 1948. They were married for over 50 years, having celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on August 7, 1998. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Homecare workers who cared for Mom and Dad while they lived in the Niakwa Place Apartments, a place where they made many good friends and had great memories. In keeping with Ernie's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Monday, August 25 at 7:00 p.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald St. A private family interment will take place in Brookside Cemetery at a later date.
