ALON MUELLER JOHNSON (published on August 23, 2008)

ALON MUELLER JOHNSON April 5, 1920 August 21, 2008 Peacefully on August 21, 2008 Alon passed away at Deer Lodge T5. He will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by his children David (Pat) and Maureen Pochailo (Steve); grandchildren Stephanie, Terry, Shane, Cory and Ryan and great-grandson Ty Phelps. He also leaves to mourn his brother Francis (Maurine) of Dallas, Texas, sister-in-law Barbara McLeod of Vancouver and very special friend Doris Cunliffe of Victoria, BC. He was predeceased by his parents Ralston and Elizabeth and by his wife Margaret in 1989. Alon was born in Omak Washington but moved at a young age to the Brooks area of Southern Alberta. He graduated from the University of Alberta in Edmonton in 1941 and, from 1941 to 1945, he served with the Loyal Edmonton Regiment in Italy, France, Holland and Berlin. Following the war Dad worked in the hatchery business in Edmonton before relocating to Winnipeg in 1951 to work at Brett-Young Seeds Limited. From 1953 until 1971, when the business was sold to outside interests, he was President and co-owner of the company. Dad was a past President and is a life member of the Canadian Seed Trade Association. Dad was an active Rotarian for over fifty years with the Rotary Clubs of Winnipeg and Victoria. Dad and Mom retired to Victoria in 1983 and enjoyed traveling and visiting with friends all around the world. One of Dad's favorite places on earth was the cottage at Lac du Bonnet where, for the past 52 years, he spent countless hours working on his many projects and windsurfing. Our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Deer Lodge who cared for Alon with such great kindness and compassion. We will never forget the comfort and joy that each of you brought to him over the past few months. A memorial service to celebrate Dad's life will be held at Deer Lodge Worship Centre (2nd Floor 2109 Portage Ave.) on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers friends may, if they wish, make a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, The Salvation Army Manitoba Division, or a charity of their choice.
