LAURA EMMA CARELS (nee VANDAELE) November 27, 1917 - August 7, 2008 Laura passed away on August 7 at the age of 90 years. Born at Lauder, Manitoba, she was the youngest of three children of Jules and Marie Vandaele. The family moved to the Chesterfield District outside of Melita, Manitoba where she received her education. In 1938 she married Harry Carels and moved to Deloraine where she happily spent the rest of her life. Laura was never one to dwell on the negative but was an inspiration to all who knew her with her positive attitude and uncanny ability to find some good in every situation as well as in everyone she met. She had many friends, offering support and encouragement through good times and bad. Above all, she loved her family deeply and was a source of strength for them throughout the years. Laura loved her home, the cottage at Lake Metigoshe, decorating and gardening. Her faith sustained her through her entire life. Laura was predeceased by her parents, mother Marie 1934, father Jules 1979, brother Adolphe 1962, sister Bertha 2006, and her loving husband Harry 1964. Left to cherish Laura's memory are her children, Ilene, Ronald (Janis), Wayne (Val) and Curtis (Kay), grandchildren, Kevin, Michelle, Chantelle, Brett, Michael, Andre, Elyse, Luc, Brooklyn and eight great-grandchildren as well as many precious nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A celebration of Laura's life was held at St. Antoninus Church in Deloraine on August 11, 2008. |
