BEATRICE BOOKMAN (published on August 23, 2008)
BEATRICE BOOKMAN October 1, 1916 - August 4, 2008 Beatrice Bookman passed away peacefully at the Sharon Home on Monday, August 4, 2008. She is survived by her daughters Anita Karp (Mel) of Vancouver, Wendy Moglove, grandchildren Ari Hershberg, Amanda Versteeg (Eric), Sean Moglove, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Woolf Marks, mother Fanny Landau, brother Dave Marks, sister Sylvia Moss and her beloved husband Israel (Bookie) Bookman. After high school, our mother moved from her birthplace Fort William to Winnipeg where she was married and raised a family soon after our father returned from service overseas. Our mother created a beautiful welcoming home where her dinner parties and holiday gatherings were legendary. Her delicious meals and signature baking were part and parcel of her ongoing celebration of life. She had a way of binding family and friends in the web of community with wit, style, and grace. She had a long good life overcoming many obstacles as a result of her strong will and perseverance. Mom was an accomplished bridge player until she succumbed to Alzheimer's. She will always remain in our hearts. A special thank you to Dr. J. Rusen, companion Suzie, the nurses and staff of the Sharon Home for their loving care and support. Graveside services were held August 6, 2008 at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mel Karp, Ron Barsky, Len Glastone, Ari Hershberg, Sean Moglove, and Daniel Goldstine. If desired, donations may be made to the Sharon Home, Alzheimer's Society, or a charity of your choice. |
