JULIUS RENTZ (published on August 27, 2008)

JULIUS RENTZ Mr. Julius Rentz, age 95 years, resident of Misericordia Place, Winnipeg, Manitoba passed away peacefully on August 23, 2008 with his family by his side. Born in Woodridge, MB, Julius moved to Beardmore, Ontario at an early age. He worked in the mines and bush camps of the area, often with his brothers, during his younger years. He later moved to Winnipeg where he married Helena Stieben and raised their son, Lawrence. Julius worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway for many years as a baggage/freight handler, until his retirement in 1979. In his later years, he and his special friend and partner Bernice McBean, enjoyed many happy years together. They were active members of the West End Seniors Centre participating in many of the activities. Throughout his life Julius always treasured his family and friends, maintaining contact through visits, telephone calls and letters. He was an avid cribbage player and scored a perfect 29 hand during a game with Lawrence. Julius always enjoyed long daily walks and continued to exercise and stay mobile as long as his health allowed. He loved gardening and shared his knowledge, hands-on help and fruits of his labour with others. Times at Lawrence's cottage were a joy to Julius - a time to relax and enjoy good fellowship. Julius' sense of humour, zest for life and generous spirit endeared him to all who knew and loved him. Julius is survived by his son Lawrence (Lucie), brothers-in-law; Henry and Ben Stieben, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Julius was predeceased by his parents; Emma and Henry Rentz, his late wife; Helena Rentz, his special friend and partner Bernice McBean, five brothers; Herman, August, Ewald, Gus and Rudy Rentz, three sisters; Augusta Moore, Emily Singbeil and Emma Aubin. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home with interment to follow. Visitation will be at 1:30 p.m. GLEN EDEN FUNERAL HOME 338-7111
