ALFRED NIKOLAUS SUSSMANN (published on August 30, 2008)
ALFRED NIKOLAUS SUSSMANN It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our Father (Papa) and Grandfather (Opa), Alfred Nikolaus Sussmann, aged 76 years, on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at his residence in Winnipeg, MB. Alfred was born May 8, 1932 to Ursula and Josef Sussmann in Stuttgart, Germany where he learned his trade as a carpenter. In 1956 he moved to Canada where he met his late wife Ingrid. Alfred leaves to mourn his best friend and companion Helen Hoel, his four children; Martin, Darlene Cox (Perry), Diane Berkowski (Bob) and Sigrid Thorsteinson (Tim); his grandchildren; Melody, Rolph, David and Crystal. Alfred was predeceased by his parents; Ursula and Josef; his infant daughter Irene and his brothers Josef and Hanz. Alfred suffered from illness for many years but had a strong will to live. He took great pleasure reminiscing and telling stories of his youth and his past life experiences and of his fondest memories, including Germany. He was a very skilled carpenter and was once quoted as having so much talent that he could take a tree and make a rocking chair out of it. Alfred also enjoyed collecting coins while being housebound which he eventually had to give up the last few years. Following Alfred's wishes cremation has taken place and a private gathering will be held. The family would like to express their appreciation to all the home care aides and nurses that lovingly helped take care of our father over the length of his illness. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Lung Association, 629 McDermot, Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6. Arrangements entrusted to: KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 Henderson Hwy. 338-0331 Send expressions of sympathy at www.mem.com. |
