ERNEST (ERNIE) WILLIAM WHITEHEAD January 21, 1918-August 20, 2008 Ernie passed away peacefully at Tuxedo Villa on August 20, 2008. A beloved father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather. Ernie was predeceased by his wife Joyce and brothers, Frank and George. He is survived by his three children, Curtis (Isabella), Maureen (Ralph) and Jane (Bruce) and brother Jack, along with four granddaughters, seven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews that he adored. After high school, he entered the work force to help support his family during the depression, then the army in 1939 until the end of the Second World War. He worked as a Manufacturer's Agent from his office in the Bell Block for 35 years until his retirement. Ernie remarried in 1986 to Ann Collier and moved to Portage La Prairie until Ann's passing and his health required him to move back to Winnipeg. Ernie enjoyed life as an accomplished bridge and crib player and was always ready for a competitive card game. A longtime member of the Canadian Legion Ernie was President of the Sir Arthur Currie Branch. He was also an executive member of the Winnipeg Monarch's Hockey Club during the 70's. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to dad's extended family at Tuxedo Villa in particular Station 2. Their support and loving care enabled Ernie to pass away with dignity and the family cannot thank them enough for their dedication. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
