CECIL ROBERT SMYTH (published on August 30, 2008)

CECIL ROBERT SMYTH Peacefully on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 Cec passed away at Concordia Hospital with his family at his side. He is survived by his beloved wife Joyce, 56 years together, daughter Jean, sons Glen (Cindy) and Bruce, grandchildren Sean, Bryan, Colin, Amanda, Alex, Lorne, Alanna, Lesley and great grand daughter Ty-Lynn, brother Stan and family. He was predeceased by his parents Winnie and Bert and sister Winnie Lattimore. Cec was born May 11, 1930 in Regina and raised as a young child in Lundar, MB, later moving to Winnipeg. He worked for REA Express and later at Stony Mountain Penitentiary. At the age of 39, he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis which changed his life dramatically. He was active for many years with the Society of Manitobians with Disabilities, HAP group (MS Society), Community Respite Service (summer programs) and Elmwood Seniors Toastmaster's Club. His Immanuel Church family was very important to him. To celebrate his life, a memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 2 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel United Church, 755 Golspie St. Rev. Nancy Sanders officiating. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful home care workers who looked after Cecil from 1985. It was Cecil's wish to live at home and with their special care this allowed him to live a full life with his family. Thanks to CRS workers who also took care of him. In lieu of flowers, donations to the MS Society (100-1465 Buffalo Pl. Ft.Gry, Wpg, MB R3T 1L8, Ph # 943 9595) or Winnipeg Humane Society (45 Hurst Way Wpg, MB R3T 0R3, Ph# 982 2041) or a charity of ones choice. We will miss his beautiful smile and gentle nature.
