VERNA MARY AHO (published on August 30, 2008)



VERNA MARY AHO Peacefully, on August 28, 2008, Verna passed away at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 77 years. Verna leaves to mourn her passing, husband Taito of 57 years, daughter Lisa of Winnipeg, daughter Shelby (Richard) of Saskatoon, son Bill (Nancy) of Yellowknife, grandchildren Valisa and David, sister Anita, brother Jack (June), brother-in-law Ted (Lorraine) all of Thunder Bay, numerous nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Thunder Bay, Verna and Ty made Winnipeg their home in 1961. Verna was a longtime employee of CIBC. She was also involved with the Girl Guide Guild of Manitoba. After retirement Mom volunteered many hours at St. Boniface Hospital. Mom and Dad took winter holidays in Cuba and summered at the cottage on Lake of the Woods. She was an avid gardener, creating and recreating her many gardens with the help of her constant pet companion Max. The family wishes to thank Dr. Lotoki and the staff at St. Boniface Cancer Care, the wonderful Home Care staff and Palliative nurses and the staff at 3E Riverview for their care and compassion. According to Verna's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. Friends are invited to gather with the family at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons Street on Sunday, August 31st at 1:00 p.m. for a time of remembrance and fellowship. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mom's memory can be made to Cancer Care Manitoba Foundation, 1160 - 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or a Pet Rescue of your choice.
