HENRY PHILLIP RETTALER 1916 - 2008 After a brief struggle our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather Henry Rettaler passed away peacefully at the Concordia Hospital, August 27, 2008. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 25 years Sylvia; and two loving families, four children from his first 43 years of marriage to Lydia (nee Lang) who predeceased him in 1982; Ann (Art) McCaughan, Sheila Carnegie, Gary (Debbie) and Gordon (Sharon), as well as Sylvia Anderson, Pat Doern, Rick (Brenda) Anderson, 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Henry was the fourth of 14 children and was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Christine; sisters, Margaret, Rose, Ruth, Chris, Ruby; and brothers, John, Fred, Roy and a newborn. Surviving him are sisters Anne (Stan) and Irene, and brothers Jack (Linda) and Benny (Bernice) as well as many nieces and nephews. Henry was born in Morden and subsequently moved to the Greenridge, Ridgeville, Dominion City area where he farmed until he retired in 1973. He spent his retirement years in Morris, Matlock, Selkirk, and most recently Winnipeg. Henry will be remembered for his goodness, honesty, family values and ethical principles, his sensitivity, sense of humour and one liners , as well as his appreciation of the natural world, and his love of children and baseball, his determination and his perseverance. Visitation 6:00 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 1, 2008 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street. Funeral service 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at Bardal Funeral Home, with Reverend Art McCaughan officiating. A graveside service will follow at the Morris Cemetery, Tuesday, September 2 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Concordia Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.
