MARY SISKA (published on September 03, 2008)

MARY SISKA May 23, 1921 - August 31, 2008 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Siska, beloved mother, Wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother peacefully with family on Sunday August 31, 2008 at the age of 87. Mary was born in Glasgow Scotland, as a young girl she worked in the chocolate factory until she was called upon for service in the war at the age of 21, she was part of the ATS Tank Core, and we will miss her stories of back home and of her time spent in the war. Mary became pen pals with John Siska through his brother George a fellow Soldier from Winnipeg, in 1948 she made the long journey from Scotland to Winnipeg to meet John and within three weeks they were married on November 20, 1948 a true love that lasted over 59 years and will continue in heaven. They created many memories we will cherish always. Although Mary left her family in Scotland, she always held them close to her heart. Mary always kept a strong bond with her family, her fun loving personality and warm sense of humor ensured we could always share a laugh. Mary devoted many years to the CWL and cheer board knitting hundreds of hats to make sure child less fortunate would be kept warm in the cold. Her selflessness is something we have all learned from and will pass on to generations to come. We have a wonderful respect for our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother for her journey in life she was a very brave, thoughtful, loving person whom we will miss tremendously. Mary will join her husband John; parents, Alexander and Elizabeth, Brothers, Thomas, Alec, and George; sisters, Margaret, and Agnes in heaven.
