FREDERICK WHITESIDE 1917 - 2008 Peacefully on September 12, Fred passed away at Tuxedo Villa in his 92nd year. He is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth (Bette) of 35 years, as well as several nieces and nephews and their children. He was predeceased by his parents, Dorothy and James Whiteside, brothers James and Bob, and sisters Dorothy Heron and Irene Whiteside. Born in Winnipeg on February 14, 1917, Fred was employed by the City of Winnipeg Transit for 40 years. In 1972 he married Bette (Johnston) and shortly after his retirement in 1984, they moved to Matlock, MB. 15 years later they returned to Winnipeg and in 2006 moved to The Boulton Retirement Residence. Fred enjoyed bowling, curling and loved music - having been a longtime member of The Barber Shop Quartets, Winnipeg Chapter. He was a member of Grace Bible Church and attended regularly when he was able. Fred was always fond of children and enjoyed family get-togethers with Bette's Winnipeg family. Bette acknowledges with thanks the excellent care that Fred received while at Victoria Hospital and Tuxedo Villa. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Grace Bible Church, 366 Oakwood Avenue, on Monday, September 15 at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Jim Barber officiating.
