BERTHA EMMA TURNER (published on September 20, 2008)

BERTHA EMMA TURNER On September 14, 2008 at Beacon Hill Lodge, Bertha Turner passed away peacefully at the age of 96. Surviving are her two sons Don (Dale), Doug (Lynn), grandchildren Darlene (Fred), Brian (Debbie), Laura and Andrew, great-grandchildren, Matt and Fred Zeiler, Scott and Justin Turner and Colin and Jenna Smith. Mom was predeceased by her parents Alidor and Marie Castelein and brother Rene. Mother was a very hard working business woman operating a restaurant in the Travellers Building for 10 years. She owned and operated the Cabin Inn in St. Boniface for 15 years. Many of her customers became lifelong friends. She was an active member of the Army Navy #60 serving as treasurer for 15 years and a life member of the Belgium Club. She enjoyed every family visit and provided both love and support to all her extended family. Some of her happiest times were spent at the family cottage at Lake Brereton, picking berries, going for long walks and watching the kids grow up. She was able to travel to Israel and Europe and made several trips to Mexico with friends. The family would like to thank Mary, Evelyn and the 3rd floor staff at Beacon Hill Lodge for their care and compassion. Special thanks to Alex Wazny for his many visits. Cremation has taken place and at her request, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Humane Society.
