AUDREY ADAIR (published on September 20, 2008)
AUDREY ADAIR (DIXON) Audrey Georgina Adair was surrounded by her family when she passed peacefully on September 18, 2008 after a brief yet brave battle with lung cancer. Born July 18, 1925 to William and Bertha (Kelly) Dixon in Winnipeg, she was a spirited child who had a particularly close relationship with her Dad. Audrey was a nature lover who enjoyed getting active outdoors. Along with cycling and walking, she also appreciated nature's simple gifts like sunsets, thunderstorms and the call of a bird. Audrey was an animal lover so she always nurtured a cat, dog or bird - either her own or those of her family. Her home was full of photographs, paintings and figurines of either nature landscapes or animals. Audrey loved to laugh and could find the humor in any situation, usually with a twinkle in her eye. Although she was a self described tomboy, she sported a sassy haircut and wore pretty earrings and a necklace to enhance the vibrant colors she was so very fond of. Although she created many memorable adventures, she also immersed herself in the pages of her beloved books. Curious by nature, Audrey would read anything from history to fiction and loved doing crossword puzzles. Audrey was a single parent whom supported her sons by working at the Health Sciences Centre. Her quiet strength, grace and fierce commitment to her family ensured each of her sons knew, without question, that they had her love and support. She took pride in taking care of them, creating a lovely home for them and making time to play with them. Audrey survived the death of her parents, sister Evelyn and husband Larry Adair. Remaining to cherish the unforgettable and lasting impression Audrey left on everyone she met: her sister Dorothy and brother Clifford and their families, numerous nephews and nieces, sons Brian (Joanne), Randy (Glenna), Alan (Joan) and Jim and grandson Terry. A celebration of Audrey's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, September 22, 2008 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (4000 Portage Avenue). The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the nursing staff on the fourth floor at the Victoria General Hospital for taking such good care of Audrey. Chapel Lawn 885-9715 |
