ANNA MAE KOTELLO (published on September 20, 2008)

ANNA MAE KOTELLO (nee ZARETSKY) Peacefully, on August 31, 2008 at St. Norbert Nursing Home at the age of 91. Anna is survived by her daughter Ellen (Vern) Barrett, her son Robert; grandchildren Wesley (Tanis) Barrett, Adam (Sunny) Barrett, Cameron (Shane) Barrett, Laurel (Manny) Mourtzanos; and great-grandchildren Riley, Erik, Sammy, Andrew, Mitchell and Maylivia; as well as siblings Jean Zaryski, Nettie Kichuk, and Leon Zaretsky. She was predeceased by her husband Michael in 1968, and by siblings Tony, Helen Kolisnyk, Frank and Bill. Anna was born August 25, 1917 at Sclater, MB. In her teens, she exhibited great determination in pursuing her vocation as a teacher. She married Michael Kotello in 1942, and they lived in a number of communities with their young family as Anna tended to both home and teacher duties. Anna enjoyed cooking and welcoming others into her home. Grandchildren remember being awakened by the smell of pancakes and bacon, and the endless card games that would follow during the day. Extended family and friends often enjoyed her hospitality and Ukrainian cuisine. After retirement, bridge became Anna's passion. She requested her 71st birthday be a bridge party with her friends, and continued to enjoy weekly bridge games until suffering a stroke four and a half years ago. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Norbert Personal Care Home for their care during the past few years. A very private family memorial celebrating Anna's life will be held at a later date. In accordance with Anna's wishes, cremation has occurred and she has joined her husband Michael at Green Acres Cemetery and Funeral Home. Messages of condolence may be placed at www.mem.com. GREEN ACRES Funeral Home and Cemetery # 1 Green Acres Lane, (204) 222-3241 Life stories may be shared with friends and family across the globe at www.mem.com
