JEAN KOZAK (published on September 20, 2008)

JEAN KOZAK It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Jean Kozak (nee Kuzyk), aged 80, at her home in Hazelridge, Manitoba on September 3, 2008. Predeceased by husband Burnell less than 12 months ago, Jean will be profoundly missed and remembered by son Gordon (Elsie) and grandchildren Michael and Angela. She also leaves to mourn her sisters, Mary, Ann, Sonia and Florence and brothers, Steve, John and Ernie, as well as many nieces and nephews. Jean was the 10th of 15 children born to Catherine and John Kuzyk of Hazelridge, and spent her early years as a second mother to their large and active family. Jean married Burnell Kozak in 1952 and ventured a mile down the road to the Kozak homestead, where she lived since. The farm prospered. Jean, who called herself a simple farmer's wife, became a mother in 1955. As her son grew, the appreciation of all that this humble farmer's wife did everyday with spirit, humour and love was truly inspiring. Farm chores, yard work and gardening were maintained, and fantastic cooking and baking magically appeared everyday. Time was also made for cards, reading, knitting, needlepoint and other craftwork that she loved sharing with her sisters and friends. She was an integral part of the famous Hazelridge perogy-making factory, but her outstanding pizza-making ability was a guarded family secret. When the grandchildren were born, Mom bombarded them with love, affection and customized knitted slippers and sweaters annually to match their growth spurts. With her strong sense of decency and all the love she shared, Mom always put other people first, never letting her hearing disability act as a deterrent to her generous spirit and hardy personality. The world would be a better place if we were all more like this simple farmer's wife. You will be loved and remembered forever. A private memorial has already taken place. Donations can be made in Jean's memory to the Society for Manitobans with Disabilities (SMD) Foundation, 401-825 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 9Z9, Hearing Impairment. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
