CAROL DARLENE KINNAIRD (published on September 23, 2008)

CAROL DARLENE KINNAIRD (nee MARTENS) It is with great sorrow the family of Carol Kinnaird announces her passing on September 20, 2008. With her husband by her side, she died with gracious dignity after a brief, yet very brave battle with cancer. Carol was born September 6, 1943 to Jake and Winnifred Martens in Manitou, Manitoba. She received her education in the La Riviere, and Manitou schools. In her younger years she was an accomplished ballplayer, as an adult she was a Blue Jays fan, and enjoyed watching hockey and curling. After graduating from high school, Carol trained as a LPN at the St. Boniface Hospital, and then worked as a LPN in Pilot Mound. It wasn't long after, that Carol married the love of her life, Dwayne Kinnaird. They lived in the La Riviere area until shortly after the birth of their daughter Crystal; then they chose to move to Camrose, Alberta. In Camrose their three sons, Curtis, Jason and Ryan, were born. Carol made many dear friends in Camrose after being involved in organizations such as the United Church, the Women of the Moose, and her Tuesday afternoon Bowling League. Carol operated a daycare in her home for several years, until deciding to return to the public workforce and took a job at Zellers. Twenty two years after leaving Manitoba, Carol and her family returned to Manitoba and took up residence in Winnipeg. Carol's compassion for people and her tenderness with children and seniors made her a natural caregiver. So at the age of 46, Carol took her nurse's refreshers course and she returned to the world of medicine. For almost 17 years, the patients at West Park Manor were blessed with her care. Carol's family meant everything to her. Everything she did came straight from the heart, and she was admired by many for many years of diligent and loving care she administered to her elderly parents. Carol was predeceased by her parents Jake and Winnie Martens. Left to mourn: Her husband, Dwayne Kinnaird, her sons: Ryan, Jason and Curtis (Jody), her daughter: Crystal (Graham) and granddaughters: Ashley and Stephanie Ozment, her brother: Garry Martens and his wife Maureen, sisters-in-law Fay (Victor) Remillard and Joy (Larry) Walka, and her many nieces and nephews. Viewing will be held at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd between 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. this evening (Tuesday, September 23). Funeral services will be held at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Drive at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 24. Interment will follow on Thursday, September 25 at 1:00 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in La Riviere, Manitoba. Carol's family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff for their kindness during Carol's stay at the Grace Hospital. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Carol's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 109 675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. THOMSON IN THE PARK 925-1120 Send expressions of sympathy to www.mem.com
