FRANK LEPPANEN (published on September 27, 2008)

FRANK LEPPANEN Frank passed away suddenly on August 22, 2008 in Elliot Lake, ON. He is survived by four children, Kathy (Frank Jowett) of Winnipeg, Frank / Tony of Winnipeg, Fredrick / Jim (Sandy) of Edmonton, Monika (Shaun Walters) of Forrest, MB, Theresa the mother of his children, nine grandchildren and their spouses, and three great-grandchildren. Also grieving is foster sister, Elsie Toporowski, of Elma, MB and her family. Frank was born in Stead, MB, to Finnish immigrants, Frank Sr. and Aino, who have predeceased him. He is also predeceased by his foster parents, Katia and Walter Niniverta, and their children, Anne Proceviat and Arnie. Frank served for 24 years in the Canadian Forces with the 3RCHA. He left the artillary in Shilo while he went on to spend his last year working with the cadets in Regina. Retiring from the forces, he went to work for the Ranch Erlo Society, guiding disturbed adolescents. After suffering a near fatal heart attack, he retrained at the Smith Clinic in Thunder Bay to become an Employee Assistance Councelor, while getting his degree in Addictions Councelling at McMaster University. He worked for Kimberly Clark where he travelled to Longlac, Nakina and Geraldton. He semi-retired in Longlac while working for Longlac Wood Industries. When Frank fully retired, he along with his new bride, June, moved to Elliot Lake, where not long after he was to mourn the loss of her. Afterwards he immersed himself in the community, volunteering at The Oak Centre for addiction treatment, and as an ever present member of The Anchor Club. Frank was eulogized at The Anchor Club, where many family and friends gathered to tell their fondest memories, and their regrets of losing a man who had become not only a Dad, a Papa and a counselor, but also a friend. Many expressed being forever grateful for his care and support. Cremation has taken place. Ashes to be honored on August 22, 2009, in Elma, MB, where he spent many happy years as a child.
