HARRIET VERNON (published on September 27, 2008)



HARRIET VERNON (nee CROUDEN) Peacefully, on August 29, 2008, after a lengthy illness, our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Harriet Vernon, passed away at the age of 86, at the Misericordia Interim Personal Care Unit. Harriet will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her sons Bob (Donna) and Stuart (Mary Ann), grandchildren Scott (Lorraine), Stacie, Steven (Gaelyn), Kristen, Michael (Jessica), and Kimberly, and great-grandchildren Gage and Parker. She is also survived by sisters Marie McCaffrey and Lorraine Crouden, nieces Lorraine Devost and Anne Marie Couperwhite and nephews Matthew and Mark McCaffrey. Harriet was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) in 1974, parents Henry and Yvonne Crouden and special friend John Unger. Harriet was born on September 5, 1921. She was raised in Winnipeg and graduated from St. Mary's Academy. As a young woman, Harriet worked at the CNR Railway where she met Bill. They married on October 11, 1942. After raising her two sons, Harriet worked for the Fort Garry School Division for 26 years, retiring in 1986. She spent many enjoyable and memorable summers with friends and family at her trailer at Spruce Sands, just north of Gimli. Harriet enjoyed reading, knitting, and watching movies. Cremation has taken place. Harriet was laid to rest on her birthday at Waverley Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 3, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. The family would like to thank the staff on Cornish 2 at the Misericordia Interim Care Unit for their excellent care of Harriet during the past 15 months.
