JOSEPHINE HICKEY (published on September 27, 2008)

JOSEPHINE HICKEY (nee GWYER) August 6, 1927 - September 10, 2008 Josephine left us peacefully in Canmore, Alberta after a brave struggle with a long term disease. She was a mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, daughter, sister, spouse, aunt, friend and teacher. Her life was lived with generosity of spirit, and she gave more than she took. She was constantly willing to assist those in need whether they were family, friends, acquaintances or strangers, never denying those that needed help. Family was everything to Jo and she revelled in the love of her family. She persevered through adversity throughout her life and was comforted by her faith in the Lord and the love that was bestowed upon her. Her joy came from being a mother and grandmother. Jo's ability to touch those around her with empathy and compassion will be her lasting legacy. It is hoped that those that have benefited from her friendship and companionship will be just a little bit like her. Josephine left this world a better place than the way she found it, and for that we will be eternally grateful. She is sadly missed by her daughter Debra (Dexter); sons, Ron and Dale (Lori); daughter-in-law Gail; grandchildren, Olivia, Cole, Alex, Alison, Tammy and Kelly; brothers, George, Dean (Grace) and Gerald (Merle); great-grandchildren, Shelby, Justin, Brandon, Chloe, Kieran and Michael; nieces; nephews; Elliot McKay; James Keith and friends. She was predeceased by her mother Edith; father Alfred, husband Herbert and siblings, Monica Gordon, Mary Siegel and Bernard Gwyer. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at The Calvary Chapel, Neepawa, Manitoba. Interment to take place in Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa. Please donate to The Prince Edward Birth to Four Program , River East Transcona School Division, 589 Roch St., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2K 2P7 in Josephine's name or generously help someone you know in need.
