PETER ANTONATION (published on October 04, 2008)

PETER ANTONATION Suddenly, Peter Antonation of Brandon, Manitoba passed away on September 20, 2008. Peter was born on September 6, 1942 in the Olha, Manitoba district. He attended school in Olha, Birtle, and Shoal Lake and later completed his electronics education at the Success College in Winnipeg. Peter worked in the electronics field for many years. Peter was a self taught musician who played the banjo, mandolin, guitar, and dobro slide guitar and had been referred to as the father of bluegrass music in Manitoba . He and his band members (Terry Carter, Darryl Day, Jim [Shavey] Gladstone, and Tim Verwey) were also known as Lonesome Pete and the Himalayan Mountain Boys. Peter attended many, many, bluegrass festivals to play and savor his music. Peter was predeceased by his father Steve in 1980, his mother Anne in 1996, and by his brothers Morris in 1974 and Boris in 2008. Peter is survived by his daughter Jennifer and his granddaughters Olivia and Sophia of Calgary. He also leaves to mourn his brothers Mervin (Valerie) of Winnipeg and Ronald of Shoal Lake, his sisters Jean Teakles and Vera Fraehlich of Winnipeg, numerous nieces and nephews, and his close friends. A memorial service was held on September 27, 2008 at Brockie Donovan Funeral Home in Brandon. Interment will be held at Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Brandon at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff at Brockie Donovan for all of their kindness. Special thanks also goes to Terry, Darryl, Jim (Shavey) and Tim for the years of sharing Peter's passion for his music and for sharing that music with those who gathered to say farewell. We will miss you Pete. There's a better home a-waitin in the sky
